The success of any company depends
on a number of factors. In the case of Wendon Manufacturing, the ultimate success
is centered about the Founder and President, Mr. Al Owen.
Wendon is now thirteen years old, as it was established in 1991 as a division
of Weldco Beales Manufacturing Ltd. The initial plant at Canoe Cove in Sidney,
B.C., manufactured one fiberglass yacht at a time. The lack of space for serious
production resulted in a temporary move to one of the hangars at Sidney International
Airport. The business of yacht building was subsequently split from the parent
company, and was re-named and incorporated as Wendon Manufacturing Ltd. in September,
1998. Plans were also developed for a major brand new facility with construction
starting in July 1999, and final move-in completed in April, 2000. The modern
plant sports 66,800 square feet of production floor space, with five overhead
traveling cranes, excellent air flow, good control of ambient temperatures, excellent
lighting, and ample power. Production lines can be easily configured for optimum
efficiency and quality control, and the facility also allows the ability to scale
production to meet new objectives.

The growth and modernization of Wendon didn't happen by accident. Mr. Owen is
no stranger to success in manufacturing, as he has been a pioneer in development
for nearly fifty years. He has been a significant supplier of manufactured goods
to major industrial equipment manufacturers such as John Deere and Caterpillar. Perhaps
his most significant contribution to industry was the pioneering and development
of Oriented Strandboard. In developing Wendon Manufacturing, Mr. Owen has instilled
his experience, knowledge, skills, and determination to succeed, through learning
and knowing the market, providing clarity of purpose, and assembling the finest
hard working team in the boat building business.
Wendon Manufacturing Ltd. focuses on the production of fiberglass vessels ranging
in size from 50 to 85 feet. Typically, there are about 35 employees working on
from three to four vessels on the floor. In adherence to its policy of finest
quality construction, Wendon has expanded slowly as it welcomes new challenges
and opportunities.
All of the input from Mr. Owen would be
meaningless if he didn't have the people, because it's the people who build the
boats.

Many of the staff at Wendon have up to twenty-five
years experience in the industry. The unparalleled quality of construction
in all phases of the manufacturing process is a reflection of their skills. Every
employee has a deep love and respect for boats, and each derives satisfaction
from building something of beauty and function.
A yacht is expected to be luxurious. It should be pleasing to view and offer extreme
comfort for its owner and guests. But a yacht is also a boat. Wendon takes pride
in making them soundly constructed, safe, and functional; with attention to performance.
It is why we can say,
